Specialised facilities

Steel fabrication and machining.

From plate to finished steel. Fabrication, machining, inspection and finishing, coordinated around each job and carried out under one roof in Kolkata.

01 Fabrication

Structural steel fabrication to your drawings.

Heavy and medium steel fabricated precisely to customer drawings and inspection protocol.

Fabricated items are made in mild steel, and in SS304 stainless steel where the job calls for it, as on the ash silo lining for NSPCL. Maintenance platforms are supplied with galvanised grating and handrailing. Builds include railway bridge girders for Eastern Railway, a 40 m chimney for Thermax and Uttam Sucrotech’s 40 m plate column, made in four parts and joined on site.

  • Gearbox housings and conveyor structures
  • ESP and boiler externals: hoppers, casings, fan casings, platforms, gratings, railings, columns, beams and bracing
  • Bag filters, crucibles, chimneys and pulleys

02 Machining

CNC machining and assembly.

Machining and assembly run alongside fabrication, so machined parts are finished in the same works as the steel they fit.

Gearbox housings are fabricated and then machined in the same works. Siemens has ordered them, and a machined gearbox housing is among the builds on the projects page. Conveyor pulleys and flanges are machined too, and assemblies such as the boiler loop seal assembly get precision fit-up before dispatch.

  • Pulleys, flanges and fitted assemblies
  • Assembly and fit-up before dispatch

03 Quality control

Quality control and inspection.

Strict process control to a quality assurance plan written for each job.

The quality assurance plan (QAP) sets out what is checked at each stage of a job, and inspection follows it through fabrication. Where the drawings come with the customer’s own inspection protocol, the work is checked to that protocol too. Each check is documented, and the records are shared on request.

  • A quality assurance plan for every job
  • Stage-wise inspection through fabrication
  • Quality documentation on request

04 Heat treatment

Heat treatment and stress relieving.

Temperature, soak time and cool-down are set by the specification of each job.

In stress relieving, a welded fabrication is heated to the set temperature, held there for the soak time and then cooled at a controlled rate. This eases the residual stress that welding leaves in the steel, which helps the part keep its shape in machining and in service.

  • Temperature to job specification
  • Soak time to job specification
  • Controlled cool-down

05 Blast and paint

Blast cleaning and industrial painting.

Blast cleaning with copper slag, grit or sand to client specification, then spray or airless painting under controlled temperature and moisture.

Blasting removes rust and mill scale, so the first coat bonds to clean steel. Moisture is kept under control because damp steel weakens that bond.

  • Copper slag, grit or sand blasting
  • Spray and airless application
  • Ambient temperature and moisture control
